The pump pulls a vacuum in the medium range, with an ultimate pressure of 1x10-4 Torr. Also, the pump module is composed of pin-fitted parts, facilitating assembly and disassembly. Applications include backing diffusion and turbomolecular pumps, space research, epoxy degassing, freeze drying, and numerous other processes.

The ARS 40-65 features a combination exhaust filter and float controlled valve, increasing the efficiency of the pump and extending the maintenance interval of the D65B. The filter is connected to the outlet port. Oil mist and aerosols are trapped in the filter element and reinjected into the lubrication circuit via a feedback connected below the inlet once it reaches the value necessary to actuate the float valve.

The filter also has its own emergency pressure relief valve to prevent pump overpressure and a differential pressure indicator for providing an easy assessment of the state of the filter element. This system should only not be used with high oxygen concentrations, hazardous, or corrosive gases.
